Information for Prospective Students

The Alabama Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Resrearch Unit (Unit) is a partnership of the US Geological Survey, Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division of Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Auburn University, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and Wildlife Management Institute.  Graduate student research and education are paramount to the Unit mission.

Unit faculty are employees of US Geological Survey (USGS).  USGS and Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division provide base operating funds.  Most Unit research projects are conducted to fulfill the information needs of USGS, Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division, and US Fish and Wildlife Service.  Auburn University provides facilities, administrative support,  assistance with administrative costs, and most importantly faculty appointments for Unit faculty.

Our graduate students are typically enrolled in degree programs in Wildlife Sciences or Fisheries Management and must apply and meet the requirements for AU  graduate programs. Nearly all of our students are supported on research assistantships funded by  existing research projects.
