Dean's Award for Advising Excellence

Purpose: The College of Agriculture established the Dean’s Award for Advising Excellence to recognize and reward the great effort faculty members make as academic advisors and mentors to our students. The college values this important service provided by faculty to our students and feels that it plays an important role in building positive relationships between faculty and students.

The Awards:  The Dean’s Award for Advising Excellence will be made annually to an individual winner.  The award includes: (1) a check of $2,000, (2) a personalized plaque and (3) a notation on a composite plaque permanently displayed in Comer Hall.

Eligibility: All tenured and tenure track faculty with assigned academic advising responsibilities are eligible. Department Heads/Chairs, the Dean and Associate Deans are not eligible. Recipients of this award will not be eligible for this award for the next two tears, but will become eligible again after two years.

Criteria for Evaluation of the Award: The recipient of the award will have demonstrated excellence in academic advising of students. Evidence will include information on student success in achieving academic and professional goals and innovative approaches to meeting student advising needs.

Nominations: The following information should be provided for each candidate who is nominated.

  • Letter of nomination from a faculty member providing a complete explanation of how the nominee has excelled in responsibilities associated with academic advising of College of Agriculture students. The letter should address the nominee’s advising experiences, examples of innovation in advising students, a list of student organizations advised, advising-related awards, advising-related committees, and advising-related professional development activities.  Self-nominations will be accepted.
  • A brief curriculum vita, documenting academic credentials, advising-related awards and recognition (local, regional and national) and overall experience in advising students.

Completed packets will be reviewed by the Curriculum Committee with a recommendation from the committee made to the Dean.  The Dean will have the final approval.

Presentation of Award: The award will be presented at the annual awards recognition reception.
