2012 Dairy Field Day Set for April 3

AUBURN, Ala.—Topics ranging from pasture-based dairying to the public’s perception of Alabama dairy farmers will be part of the program at the 2012 Alabama Dairy Field Day, set for Tuesday, April 3, from 8:45 a.m. till 2:30 p.m. at Auburn University’s E.V. Smith Research Center in Shorter. The center’s Dairy Unit is located at 4725 Macon County Road 40.

Two of the day’s six sessions will focus on the whys and how-tos of incorporating forages and grazing into dairy operations, a third session on enhancing dairy farmers’ image and the remaining three on soil fertility, precision ag equipment and the economics of growing hay versus buying it.

Dairy producers and others who plan to attend are asked to preregister for lunch-count purposes. For producers, registration is free; for all others, the cost is $10 fee, payable during field day registration, which opens at 8 a.m.

Sponsors for the field day include Auburn’s College of Agriculture, the Alabama Cooperative Extension System and the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station, along with several companies and organizations in the industry.
