May 27 opening day for The Market at Ag Heritage Park

The fresh fruits and vegetables of summer and other local products ranging from farm-raised shrimp to daylilies await you every Thursday afternoon this summer, from 3 to 6 p.m., at The Market at Ag Heritage Park.

The 2010 edition of The Market opens on the Auburn University campus Thursday, May 27, and from then through Thursday, Aug. 26, area growers will be offering a wide variety of fruits and vegetables that will change as the summer season progresses. And most every week, shoppers also will find honey, goat cheese, stone-ground grains, Alabama-roasted coffee, homemade jellies and home-baked goods, including oven-ready casseroles, as well.

The open-air, growers’-only farmers market, now entering its sixth season, will return to its 2009 location on South Donahue Drive between West Samford Avenue and Lem Morrison Drive. The entrance will be on Donahue, beside the Ham Wilson Livestock Arena. The Market will be open rain or shine, unless severe weather threatens the safety of vendors and customers.

For more information on The Market at Ag Heritage Park, contact Laura Herring, Market manager, at 334-321-1603 or herrilm@auburn.edu, or visit the website at ag.auburn.edu/themarket.

The Market is sponsored by Auburn’s College of Agriculture and the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station.
