Discover Auburn Series Lecture Celebrates Comer Hall Centennial

AUBURN, Ala.—Two Ag Hill veterans who have written a book chronicling Auburn University’s agricultural history will commemorate Comer Hall’s centennial celebration when they present "Comer Hall and Family" Thursday, April 29, at 3 p.m. in the Special Collections and Archives Department of the Ralph Brown Draughon Library and bring to a close the Spring 2010 Discover Auburn Lecture Series.

In their presentation, Gene Stevenson and Joe Yeager will draw from their book, Inside Ag Hill: The People and Events that Shaped Auburn’s Agricultural History from 1872 through 1999, to tell the story of the Comer Agricultural Hall and its century-long role as the cornerstone of agriculture at Auburn.

Stevenson—who, like Yeager, is an Auburn College of Agriculture alum—worked as a writer and editor in the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station’s research information department from 1955 until his retirement in 1991. Yeager joined the faculty of Auburn’s agricultural economics department in 1951 and retired 40 years later as professor and department head.

Copies of Inside Ag Hill will be available for $10 at a reception following the program.

The lecture is cosponsored by the College of Agriculture, the Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for the Arts and Humanities in Auburn’s College of Liberal Arts, Auburn University Libraries and the Auburn University Bookstore. For more information on the program and the series, call 844-4946 or visit www.auburn.edu/cah.

The Discover Auburn Lecture Series features programs on research, history and other topics of interest by Auburn faculty, staff and graduates. Videos of past lectures can be found online.
