Alabama Dairy Field Day Planned for April 30

The 2008 Alabama Dairy Field Day will be held at the Dairy Unit at Auburn University’s E.V. Smith Research Center in Shorter on April 30.

The day’s program includes information on capturing and converting methane, lowering and managing somatic cell counts and mastitis controls in heifers and older cows, avoiding and managing aflatoxin in dairy feeds and options on feeding dairy cattle when corn prices are rising.

There will also be a tour of the E.V. Smith dairy facility and a discussion session with Alabama Department of Environmental Management and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service representatives about waste management rules and regulations. Producers who attend can earn one continuing education unit credit.

Reservations must be made by April 21. The $5-per-person registration fee will be payable at the event. Field day organizers are seeking corporate or private sponsors to offset meeting costs. Sponsorship levels are available from $100 to $1,000.
