AU to Host Annual Landowner and TREASURE Forest Conference

AUBURN, Ala. — Landowners and forestry and natural resource professionals from across the state will meet on the Auburn University campus this fall for the 22nd annual Alabama Landowner and TREASURE Forest Conference.

The conference is set for Thursday and Friday, Oct. 6 and 7, at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center.

Opening day of the conference will take participants on a tour of the new AU School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences facility, followed by a field trip to the property of former Alabama Chief Justice C.C. “Bo” Torbert. After a presentation by Torbert on the history of his land, outdoor sessions will be held on topics including forestry and herbicide use, pond management and invasive species management. A forest-floor mulching machine demonstration will also be featured.

The day will wind down with an awards banquet and dessert social, to be held at the conference hotel.

Conference sessions on the second day will feature information on the Forest Biorefinery, wood bowl carving, the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources's quail initiative, Alabama Forestry Commission invasive species control and cost share programs and an update from the School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences.

Also on Oct. 7, the Alabama Treasure Forest Association will host its annual silent auction and hold a luncheon.

Registration for the conference will begin at 9 a.m. Oct. 6 in the lobby of the hotel and conference center. The registration fee is $75 per person if postmarked before Sept. 30 and $85 thereafter. The fee includes the tour, lunch and banquet on Thursday and the indoor sessions and lunch on Friday.
