25th Taste of Alabama and Fall Ag Roundup Set Oct. 9

AUBURN — Ag Heritage Park on the campus of Auburn University will be the scene of a colossal tailgating party Saturday, Oct. 9, as the Auburn University College of Agriculture and the AU Agricultural Alumni Association host the 25th annual Taste of Alabama Agriculture and Fall Ag Roundup.

The park is located on Samford Avenue near the intersection of Samford and South Donahue Drive.

Gates to the homecoming tailgating tradition will open at 9 a.m. onto a bountiful array of foods that spotlight both traditional and exotic food items that are either grown or processed in Alabama. For a $5 admission fee, visitors can enjoy everything from roast lamb to collard greens, and from sweet potato fries to a new-to-the-U.S. gourmet Italian pork dish known as porchetta.

Food won’t be the only attraction at the Taste and Roundup, either. The event also will feature entertainment by the bluegrass band, Heart Pine; exhibits from academic departments, student organizations and commodity and agribusiness groups; and an auction that will give Roundup tailgaters the chance to bid on such prizes as vacations, hunting and fishing trips, toys and much more. All auction proceeds go to the Ag Alumni Association Fall Roundup Scholarship Fund.

Ag Roundup will wind down at noon. Ag Heritage Park is just two blocks from Jordan-Hare Stadium, giving tailgaters ample time to be in the stands for the kickoff of AU’s homecoming game against Louisiana Tech University.

The public is invited to attend Ag Roundup festivities, which each year draw more than 1,500 tailgaters who come to enjoy the food, fellowship and fun. Admission is free for active Ag Alumni Association members and for children 6 and under.
