AU Rural Sociologist Elected National Science Association Fellow

Joseph Molnar, a professor in Auburn University’s Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology, has been elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

Molnar was selected based on his distinguished work in the areas of the intersection of agricultural and social science and the relationships between technology and rural communities, both in the U.S. and abroad.

Currently at AU, the rural sociologist’s research focuses on barriers to adoption and retention of sustainable agricultural practices, impacts of the equine industry in Alabama and institutional aspects of aquacultural development in Central America.

Molnar joins four other Auburn faculty as AAAS Fellows, including biological sciences professor Joe Cherry, entomology professor Eddie Cupp, pharmacy professor Norman Doorenbos and plant pathology professor emeritus Urban Diener. Fellows are elected in recognition of their meritorious efforts to advance science or its applications.

The Association, which publishes the peer-reviewed general science journal Science, is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing science and serving society worldwide through initiatives in science policy, international programs and science education.
