Agriculture/AAES Faculty Recognized for Advising, Teaching and Research Skills

AUBURN, Ala. - In an awards ceremony held in December, seven faculty members from the College of Agriculture and the School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences were recognized for their advising, teaching or research skills. These included Elizabeth Guertal, Patricia Duffy, Greg Traxler, Mickey Eubanks, Daowei Zhang, Chris Keith and Joey Shaw.

Elizabeth Guertal, alumni associate professor in Agronomy and Soils, received the Dean's Award for Advising Excellence for 2001.

Patricia Duffy, professor in Agricultural Economics, was honored with the Dean's Award for Teaching Excellence for 2001.
Greg Traxler, professor in Agricultural Economics, was recipient of the Director's Senior-level Research Award for his research in the economic impact of biotechnology innovation and genetic modification of crops.

Mickey Eubanks, professor in Entomology and Plant Pathology, received the Director's Junior-level Research Award for research in the areas of biological control and community ecology.

Daowei Zhang professor in Forestry and Wildlife Sciences, was nominated for the Director's Senior-level Research Award for his dedication to forestry research and for leading the Center for Forest Sustainability.

Chris Keith, assistant professor in Animal and Dairy Sciences, was nominated for the Director's Junior-level Research Award for his creative and hard work in teaching, research and graduate and undergraduate support.

Joey Shaw, assistant professor in Agronomy and Soils, was nominated for the Director's Junior-level Research Award for his efforts in research, teaching, publishing and serving as the Director's representative at the Alabama Soil and Water Conservation Committee meetings.

Recipients of the Dean's awards for advising and teaching each were given a check for $1,000 in addition to another $1,000 to use for meetings, travel or any other purpose related to their continuing development as a faculty member.

Traxler received $10,000 and Eubanks received $5,000 for use their research programs. Those recognized for nomination for the Director's Research Awards were given a $500 award to be used for professional travel.
