Alabama Fruit and Vegetable Growers Conference Scheduled

GULF SHORES, Ala.—The 21st annual Alabama Fruit and Vegetable Growers Conference is scheduled for Wednesday-Friday, Nov. 1-3, at the Gulf State Park Resort Hotel in Gulf Shores.

The conference provides the opportunity for growers and potential producers to learn the latest ideas and technologies for use in commercial fruit and vegetable production. In addition to cultural practices and management techniques, this year's conference will emphasize marketing concepts and opportunities.

A special session on marketing by Linda Stanley Ramos of Produce Promotions, Chicago, Ill., is planned. In addition, more than 50 experts from across the United States are scheduled to speak.

The conference is open to all interested persons and will begin at 1 p.m. on Wednesday Nov. 1. The registration desk will open at 8:30 a.m. with a discount offered to those who preregister.

Pre-registration forms and information are available from Leslie Brasher, P.O. Box 2081, Auburn. Information is also available from David Himelrick (334) 844-3042 or Joe Kemble (334) 844-3050, both of the Department of Horticulture at Auburn University.

Hotel reservations can be made by calling 800-544-4853. Rooms are only $39 per night per room when you inform the operator that you will be attending the conference. You must make your reservation by Sept. 30 to assure that you will have a room.

Growers are encouraged to plan to attend both the Wednesday and Thursday sessions. This year's conference will also include a special farm tour segment on Friday.
