CLANTON, Ala. —The Chilton Area Horticulture Station in Clanton will host a field day featuring a wide range of information on fruit and vegetable production for home gardeners and commercial growers alike on June 2 beginning at 2 p.m., according to Station Superintendent Jim Pitts.

Included on the program will be information about strawberry, blackberry, fig, peaches, plums and pecans varieties and production practices. Information also will be offered on ornamental crops, such as crape myrtles, and on the Master Gardener program. Those attending also can learn about techniques for grafting fruit and ornamental trees and how to prepare strawberry, blackberry, peach and plum desserts and juices.

The informational part of the program includes tours of research plots and demonstration stations located on the Station's property. Experts from Auburn University, the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station (AAES) and the Alabama Cooperative Extension System (ACES) will speak on the various subjects listed above and also will be available to answer questions on these and other gardening issues. The tours will be followed by a low country boil dinner at 5 p.m., which will be available for $5, and entertainment will be provided by the Isabella FFA High School String Band.

This Field Day is cosponsored by the AAES and ACES and is open to all persons regardless of race, color, sex, religion or national origin. For more information about the field day or to obtain directions to the Station, contact Pitts at 205-646-3610.
