4-H Joins AU War on Hunger Effort

In January 2008, Alabama 4-H will launch a War on Hunger Extension team project that will engage youths in grades 4-12 in educational activities and community service events to address local and global hunger. Professor of Human Development and Family Studies Jennifer Kerpelman and her graduate/undergraduate research team spearheaded the effort for 4-H to become involved in the War on Hunger.

This project creates opportunities for AU students and faculty to work with 4-H leaders and 4-H youths on the War on Hunger initiative. In addition, it adds a new piece to the AU War on Hunger initiative by drawing Alabama’s youth into the effort to find a sustainable solution to hunger. Through the project, young people can learn about domestic and global hunger and participate in activities that help them forge a sense of civic identity by better connecting them to their own communities.
