In lieu of a textbook, we will read 1-2 published papers and/or assigned readings per week in this course. In addition there will be several assigned videos and laboratory assignments. The assigned published papers will be discussed in recitation, the other readings are designed to compliment lecture materials.

Recitiation papers: Each student is responsible for reading and preparation for discussion. Each student will prepare a 1-2 page summary of each paper. At the beginning of recitation, I will randomly select a student to lead the discussion. I expect students to become familiar with the methods and analysis presented in each paper. This will likely require research regarding the basis for the work and the works cited in each paper. In addition, unannounced quizzes may be administered at any time.

Laboratory assignments: There are five lab reports that will be graded. Each will be on the web and will be introduced in recitation.

Quizzes: There will be multiple quizzes in the class. They count for 30% of your total grade. If you attend lecture and read the assignments you will do well.

Extra credit: Points will be awarded for gathering information re: river management and ecology world wide.

Students are expected to attend class and participate in class activities. Laboratories and field trips may be made up if arranged in advance. Students with a special need or a handicap should discuss specific accommodation requirements with the instructor.
