Students

XIAOWEI LI

Xiaowei, PhD student,  is conducting research on the development of species-specific markers for American Castanea species. He is presently analyzing 454 sequence information of Castanea pumila

ZHUOYU WANG

Zhuoyu, PhD student, is presently working on the characterization of RBOHD and NAC genes isolated from Citrullus colocynthis, a very drought tolerant cucurbit species.

Former Students

YING SI and YING HUANG

Ying Si, PhD student until 2009, presently a Postdoctoral Fellow at UAB, Birmingham, AL, and Ying Huang, MS student until 2009, presently in CA

Ying Si conducted  research geared toward understanding drought stress mechanisms in a very drought tolerant Citrullus species, C. colocynthis.

The objective of her research was to characteize genes encoding RBHOD (respiratory burst oxidase homolog D) and GRAS isolated from C. colocynthis.

Ying Huang conducted research on differential gene expression in Citrus unshui and Poncirus trifoliata in response to cold-acclimation.

SHASHA MENG

. Shasha Meng, a MS student in our Department until 2006, presently a research associate at Sloan Kettering Institute in New York, studied cold induced genes in Poncirus trifoliata

CANKUI ZHANG
Dr.
Cankui Zhang, a PhD student in our Department until 2005, presently Postdoctoral Fellow at Cornell University, conducted research on differential gene expression during cold acclimation in Poncirus trifoliata and Citrus unshiu.

PING LANG
Dr. Ping Lang, a PhD student until 2004, presently Postdoctoral Fellow at Cornell University, investigated the phylogheny and biogeography of Castanea species and as a PostDoctoral Fellow (until 2005) studied differential gene expression in Satsuma mandarin during cold acclimation.

JIARONG LIU
Jiarong (Rona) Liu, a MS student in our Department until 2005, presently a PhD student at University of Alabama in Birmingham, studied phylogheny and biogeography of watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) based on cpDNA, nuclear sequences and AFLPs.

YUQING FU
Yuqing Fu, a MS student in our Department until 2001, analyzed genetic variation in Allegheny chinkapin (Castanea pumila var. pumila )populations.

Dr. Leigh Hawkins, a PhD student in our Department until 1999, presently a Research Plant Physiologist at USDA, ARS in Mississippi, developed a genome map in Citrillus lanatus populations segregating for resistance to Fusarium wilt.
