Fig. x. bolteri

Dietz 1891:208. Hab.-- New Mexico.
Three specimens in Mr. Bolter's collection, to whiom it gives me pleasure to dedicate this addition to our fauna.

Burke and Gates 1972:1223. Anthonomus bolteri Dietz. Fall (1913) mentioned that A. bolteri might be only a variety of A. haematopus, and subsequently catalogues (Leng 1920, Schenkling and Marshall 1934) have listed it as such. However, A. bolteri appears to us to be sufficienlty distinct from A. haematopus to warrant specie status.
A paragraph on label data indicating development on galls follows.

Burke 1984:158. Anthonomus bolteri Dietz 1891:208.
Lectotype: Male [N. Mex./ Type 1957/ W. G. Dietz coll./ Anthonomus Bolteri Dietz] in MCZ.
Paralectotype: Male N.M./ Bolter Coll. No. E11349a Univ of Ill./ Bolteri Dietz n.sp.] in INHS. Male [N.M.] also bearing red label; in CM.
Dietz mentioned three specimens from New Mexico in the Bolter Collection. There a re presently eight specimens of bolteri from New Mexico in the Bolter Collection but only the specimen bearing the handwritten label "Bolteri Dittz n. sp." is identifiable as part of the original type series. The lectotype and two paralectotypes designated above probably constitute the entire type series.
