Literature
Anthonomus molochinus Dietz. Blatchley and Leng (1916:310) provided a brief description
of this species and stated "Franconia, New Hampshire, Sept. 2; Blanchard collection;
taken from wild asters by Mrs. Slosson. Ottawa, Canada, June 14. Described from Montana."
Blatchley and Leng (1916:309-311) placed A. tectus LeConte, A. squamulatus Dietz, A.
molochinus Dietz, A. rufipes LeConte, and A. disjunctus LeConte in "Group G" which they
characterized as "...from 2.7 to 3.5 mm. in size ... the upper and lower surfaces more or
less clothed with scales, which vary in shape from almost round to very elongate and
hair-like. ... All have the femora armed with a single tooth beneath."
Anthonomus molochinus Dietz. Dietz 1891:231. Hab. Montana. Four specimens, coll. E. A.
Swhwarz, H. Ulke and my own. Very distinct; might, perhaps, with equal propriety be
referred to the pubescent species, the whole habitus, arrangement of elytral vittae,
however, place it unmistakably in the present group, while the conspicuous, partially
denuded elytral fascia, distinguishes the present from all the other members of the same.
Anthonomus molochinus Dietz. Fall 1913:54. Specimens in no way distinguishable from the
Montana type have been taken in Franconia, New Hampshire, in September or October by
Mrs. Slosson, who writes that they were swept from wild asters in a limited area.
