Literature.

From Solanaceae ms: The lectotype of A. aeneotinctus is "rubbed" in such a way as to give it the appearance of having large posterolateral fascia. On close inspection, however, the vestiture of the specimen is seen to be like that of the Guanajuato paralectotypes and like other "typical" A. eugenii. Perhaps it was the "false" posterolateral fascia on the lectotype that led Champion to conclude that the specimens (one male and one female on the same card) labelled "Amula,/ Guerrero,/ 6000 ft./ Aug. H. H. Smith." "B.C.A.Col.IV.4 ./ Anthonomus/ aeneotinctus,/ var. Champ." represent a "variety" of A. aeneotinctus. Champion (1903) described these as "prothorax with three narrow vittae, and the elytra with the alternate interstices in part, clothed with whitish, and the rest of their surface with ochreous, pubescence." H. R. Burke labelled them "n. sp. -/ to be/ described/ H. R. Burke '66." A male syntype of A. aeneotinctus labelled "Orizaba./ H. H. S. & F. D. G./ Dec. 1887." "B.C.A.Col.IV.4./ Anthonomus/ aeneotinctus,/ Champ." (BMNH) is conspecific with these two specimens. These are not conspecific with the lectotype of A. aeneotinctus but instead represent a presumably undescribed species in Dietz's (1891) A. squamosus group.
