Auburn Masters is a club for lap swimmers, fitness swimmers, triathletes, and competitive swimmers. Auburn Masters Swimming is affiliated with United States Masters Swimming (USMS). Auburn Masters swimmers belong to USMS, which provides individuals and the club with insurance coverage, newsletters, and subscription to USMS Swimmer, the official magazine of USMS. Here is the 2008 USMS Registration form for joining the national organization.
Auburn Masters is open to anyone over the age of 18 and to (almost) all levels of ability; however, our group is not intended for those who need beginning swimming lessons. Auburn Masters has students, faculty, staff, and community members spanning several decades and a widerange of abilities. As a swim club, we have regularly scheduled workouts with a qualified swim coach who develops different workouts for different groups of swimmers. Coaches work with each swimmer to improve her or his swimming technique both to improve performance and to avoid injury while training. We are fortunate to have a group of highly capable coaches who bring to us the latest in swimming techniques, as reflected in success of the Auburn University men's and women's teams. We workout in the James E. Martin Aquatics Center at Auburn University, one of the best pools in the country. Click here to see a photo of and learn more about the facility: Aquatics Center. In addition, Auburn University opened a new outdoor 50 meter by 25 meter training facility in July 2007.
USMS sanctions swimming competitions at the local, zone, region, and national levels. Some Auburn Masters swimmers participate in swimming meets, but this is strictly voluntary. Information on USMS competitions Nationally and in the Dixie Zone are available on the web.
Between 1998 and 2007 Auburn Masters Swimmers recorded a total of 145 times that qualify them for National Top Ten best times in Short Course Yards, Short Course Meters, or Long Course Meters. A listing of these Top Ten times (9 relay & 136 individual) can be found here.
Auburn Masters Swimmers also hold 9 national USMS records, including 1 relay and 8 individual records.

1. USMS: All Auburn Masters swimmers must join the national organization, United States Masters Swimming. Membership is $37 on a calendar year basis.
2. Aquatics Center: Masters swimmers need to become members of the Aquatics Center. Students automatically are considered members. Faculty pay $30 per quarter, alumni pay $40 per quarter, and other community members pay $60 per quarter to use the pool. Family rates for non-students also are available; enquire at the pool (844-4182). As an alternative to quarterly payments, the option exists to pay $2.00 each time you swim. Please bring exact change and pay the lifeguard at the desk before you enter the locker rooms. The lifeguard will give you a release of liability form to sign.
3. Club Dues: All team members pay club dues. Club dues cover the expenses associated with hiring of coaches and renting pool space at the Aquatics Center.
Students pay $67.50 per semester and all others pay $135 per semester ($15 & $30 per month, collected at the start of the semester). Fall semester runs from August 15 to December 31st. Spring semester runs from January 1st to May 15th. Summer term (May 16 to August 14th) dues for 2008 have not yet been set, but may be based on the same monthly rate plus an additional amount so that club revenues and coaching fees do not get too far out of balance during that period.
