  Job Responsibility: This is a 9-month tenure track position (40% instruction, 60% research). The 9-month salary may be supplemented through research grants and opportunities for summer teaching. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting research leading to identification of functional roles of genes and gene networks that underlie economically important traits in livestock, with a primary focus on beef cattle. The candidate will be expected to make a major contribution to the development of the animal genomics program within the Department of Animal Sciences, College of Agriculture and the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station. Research activities will result in development and submission of grant applications and of manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals. Teaching responsibilities will include instruction of undergraduate and graduate courses in the areas of functional genomics, molecular biology, biochemistry and/or animal biotechnology. Collaboration with other faculty in the department, College of Agriculture, College of Veterinary Medicine and College of Sciences and Mathematics will be expected. Service to the department, college, university, and profession are also expected.
  Job Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include an earned PhD in Animal Science, Genetics, Molecular Biology or related discipline by the position start date. Postdoctoral experience is desired. Candidates must have documented experience and/or evidence of the ability to function as a successful teacher at the undergraduate and graduate level, documented experience and/or evidence of the ability to identify and secure extramural funding, excellent interpersonal skills to effectively interact with diverse audiences, and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English. The candidate selected for the position must be able to meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.
