Alabama Poultry Moves from a Home Enterprise to a Farm Enterprise
• Auburn University’s poultry program becomes part of the Animal Industry Department
• First Poultry Husbandry courses taught at Auburn University
• Auburn Extension specialists organize national egg-laying contests

1930-1949 THE DEVELOPMENT YEARS…
Development of Husbandry Practices for the Deep South
• The Auburn Strain of the single comb white leghorn developed
• Poultry Handbook for Southern States published
• Poultry Husbandry Department established

1950-1969 THE RAPID GROWTH YEARS…
Putting Science into Commercial Husbandry Practices
• Coccidia vaccine and control programs developed by Dr. S. Allen Edgar
• Stimulight program developed and announced
• The name, Department of Poultry Science, adopted in 1961

1970-1989 THE FOUNDATION YEARS…
New Facilities. New Faculty. New Technology
• Artificial insemination & separate-sex-feeding developed for broiler breeders
• New poultry research farm built at Auburn University
• Alabama becomes a leading broiler producing & processing state

1990-now THE EXPANSION YEARS
Establishment of a Farm-to-Fork Mission
• Poultry Products Safety and Quality program established
• New Poultry Science Building opens in 2005
• National Egg Processing Center established
