Sandra J. Ewald is a native of Texas and is a Professor in the Department of Poultry Science with a joint appointment in the Department of Pathobiology. Her teaching responsibilities include a graduate level course taught through the Veterinary Biomedical Sciences program. She is a member of the American Association of Immunologists, and the NE-60 Multistate Research Project (Genetic Bases for Resistance and Immunity to Avian Diseases).
EDUCATION: 1976 to 1979 - Postdoctoral Fellow at California
Institute of Technology RESEARCH:Recent studies focus on molecular characterization of genes of the chicken major histocompatibility complex (MHC). The MHC influences resistance to a number of infectious diseases in chickens. We are presently examining immunological mechanisms of resistance to disease.
