Research Experiences for Undergraduates

National Science Foundation

WHERE DISCOVERIES BEGIN

Auburn University will host 10 students during summer to participate in a Research Experience for Undergraduate Site Program sponsored by the National Science Foundation in collaboration with the Department of Defense through the Awards to Stimulate and Support Undergraduate Research Experiences (ASSURE) program.
Can I apply?
The program is open to all undergraduate students enrolled in Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, or that are interested in pursuing careers in science. However, you must be a citizen or permanent residents of the United States and have to be enrolled in a degree program (part-time or full-time) leading to a baccalaureate or associate degree. High school graduates who have not yet enrolled and students who have already received their bachelor's degrees are not eligible. Women, underrepresented minorities and first generation college students are especially encouraged to apply.
What are the experiences I can gain from the program?
You will acquire hands-on experiences by conducting experimental research in laboratories actively involved in the development of sensors and biosensors. The program will also provide guidance on preparation for graduate school and the graduate experience. In addition, thre will be a seminar series on ethics in science to highlight the importance of imposing a high standard of ethics in research endeavors. At the end of the internship, all students will communicate their results in poster presentations.
Are the expenses covered by the program?
Yes. All stipends, room, board and travel expenses are provided.
You can apply online following the directions on this site. If you have any questions, please contact Omar Oyarzabal, Program Director, oyarzoa@auburn.edu - 334-844-2608.
