
SCIENTIFIC NAME: Albizia julibrissin
COMMON NAME: silk tree, mimosa
LEAVES: Mostly bi and tri pinnately compound leaves. Leaflets with an inequilateral base. Up to 25 leaflets per leaf. Up to 2' long. One margin of leaflet is straight while the other margin is curved.
FLOWERS: Fine pink flowers in May/June.
FRUIT: 3" long bean pod.
BARK: Smooth
OTHER: Pretty spring flowers. A bad landscape tree because it suckers easily and is short lived. Fast growing. Grows 20' to 40' tall. Fungal vascular wilt disease makes this tree undesirable. A member of the Fabaceae family (legume). Cultivars have been released that are supposedly wilt resistant. Generally messy tree.
