
SCIENTIFIC NAME: Acca sellowiana (Feijoa sellowiana)
COMMON NAME: pineapple guava
FLOWERS: Red in the spring.
GROWTH HABIT: Shrub that grows 5' to 12' tall and wide.
LEAVES: Opposite with entire, revolute margins. Silver hairs underneath and on young twigs. Up to 3" long.
OTHER: Hardy to zone 8. Heat and drought tolerant. Can be grown in full sun to part shade. Has yellow fruit, the size of a silver dollar, in the fall that is used to make guava jelly. Fruit is found on plants that grow in warmer climates (Florida). Very drought tolerant. A member of the Myrtaceae family. Formerly the genus was Feijoa. Tough plant and should be used in its hardiness range.
