9:00 a.m. Training young trees in the way they should grow. Dr. Glenn Fain So you’ve selected a great tree, chosen a great location, and properly put it in the ground…. Now comes the uncertainty for many:  Do I stake?  How do I stake?  When do I remove stakes?  Do I prune at planting?  What pruning cuts do I make?  And how much mulch is too much?

10:15 a.m.  Maintenance tips to help improve profitability Dr. Joe Eakes Looking at our economy the grass may not appear to be greener for the landscape industry, but it’s still growing and so are the shrubs!  This presentation will focus on tips you can use for the landscape maintenance side of your business to improve profitability during these lean times.
11:00 a.m. LEEDing the way in sustainable landscapes: The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED™) Dr. Carolyn Robinson Leed™ is a certification program managed by the U.S. Green Building Council which is an organization dedicated to sustainable living through cost-efficient and energy saving green building practices. Help your clients earn points towards certification through sustainable landscape practices.

1:15 p.m. What everyone should know about bid documents Dr. Harry Ponder What constitutes a set of bid documents?  What you should look for in a set of bid documents?  What is the difference between bid documents and contract documents?  These questions plus many others will be answered in this presentation.  This presentation will be important to anyone in the landscape industry and particularly those considering or doing bid work.

2:45 p.m. Finding opportunities during tough times - Panel Discussion Dr. Joe Eakes, Moderator Industry professionals will be on hand to discuss opportunities that they have found under the current economic environment.  Come be a part of the discussion, as well as, sharing personal experiences you feel might encourage others in the landscape industry during these uncertain economic times.

8:30 a.m. Pesticide safety: Meeting legal requirements Dr. Wheeler Foshee Safety - what a boring topic! But to keep you sleeping well at night we'll cover what you need to know.
9:15 a.m. Can you eliminate hand weeding with post-emergence weed control? Dr. Charles Gilliam Postemergence weed control can reduce your labor cost. Hand weeding is expensive and often many of the weeds are overlooked by those weeding.
10:00 a.m. Break    
10:15 a.m. Landscape and turf disease ID and control Dr. Austin Hagan Identification of damaging or notable diseases and nematode pests on common landscape herbaceous and woody ornamentals along with control strategies of each of those diseases will be discussed. Particular attention will be placed on presenting information pertaining to culture and disease resistant alternatives to chemical control.
11:00 a.m. Applying the correct amount: Saving money and better control Drs. Wheeler Foshee and Charles Gilliam Newer pesticides are "shrinking" in the amount applied. As newer formulations continue to follow this trend it is vital to know how to put on the right amount with proper calibration.

1:15 p.m. Hands-on clinic: Disease, insect and weed ID Drs. Austin Hagan, Wheeler Foshee, and Charles Gilliam Is it a friend of foe? What kind of weed is that? What are these spots on those leaves? Identifying pests is the key to sucessful control. Learn to identify the major insects, weeds, and diseases in the landscape.
