SCIENTIFIC NAME: Populus deltoides

COMMON NAME: cottonwood

LEAVES: Deltoid (triangle) shaped with a flat petiole and serrated or more properly created (rounded points). Up to 10" in length.

FRUIT: Looks like cotton balls blowing in the wind during the summer.

BARK:

OTHER: Grows up to 6' per year. Indicates low, moist sites. Not a landscape tree. A member of the Salicaceae family. Short lived and tends to sucker badly.
