SCIENTIFIC NAME: Pinus glabra

COMMON NAME: spruce pine

LEAVES: 2 needles/fascicle and very flexible. Up to 4" long and twisted.

BARK: Ridge and furrowed, similar to a red oak trunk, but smooth on the limbs.

OTHER: Cones are small (3"), and drop quickly. Grows 60' to 80' tall. Native to south Alabama in low, moist sites. Will grow all over the southeast as a landscape tree. An attractive landscape tree that should be used more. Native to south MS, south AL, south GA, and South Carolina.
