SCIENTIFIC NAME: Nyssa ogeche

COMMON NAME: ogeechee tupelo

LEAVES: Pubescence on the petiole and mid-vein. Petiole is 1" or less. Tapers to the base (cuneate) and is widest above the middle (obovate). Four to six inches long.

GROWTH RATE: 1.6 ft./yr.

FLOWERS: Dioecious

FRUIT: Red drupe to 1" long in the fall.

BARK: Grey, ridged and furrowed. Young tree has gray blotches on trunk which are attractive.

OTHER: Grows 30' to 50' tall. Good red fall color. Fast growing. Easy to transplant. Good tree that is becoming more popular. Native to low moist sites but will grow on high dry sites.
