COMMON NAME: water tupelo, cotton gum

LEAVES: Tries to lobe. Bigger leaf than Nyssa ogeche. Reddish petiole. Pointed at both ends. Up to 5" in length.

OTHER: Bulbous base. Trunk feels like it has water in it when it is kicked. Grows 50' to 80' tall and is very straight. Hard to transplant. Native to low/moist sites. Indicates water in the area. Good to leave on the site. Fall color is yellow. Will grow on intermediate sites. Male and female trees. A member of the Nyssaceae family.
