SCIENTIFIC NAME: Magnolia virginiana

COMMON NAME: sweet bay magnolia

LEAVES: Has a flexible, narrow leaf that is silver underneath and smells good. Pointed at both ends. Petiole is usually pubescent. Evergreen species. Up to 5" long.

FLOWERS: White. 3" diameter. May-June.

BARK: Smooth.

OTHER: Grows 60' to 80' tall. Flowers from May until June. Native to low, moist sites, but will grow in dry areas. Flowers are small. A good tree that should be used more in the landscape.
