COMMON NAME: big leaf magnolia
LEAVES: Alternate, up to 36" long with white pubescence underneath. Have a wavy margin and 2 rounded lobes at the base (auriculate). Largest simple leaf of any species native in the United States.
FLOWERS: Up to a foot in diameter. White.
BARK: Smooth and grey.
GROWTH RATE: 1.6 ft./yr.
OTHER: Largest flower and non-compound leaf in North America. Grows 20' to 40' tall and is native to low/moist sites. Native to low moist sites.
