SCIENTIFIC NAME: Juglans cinerea

COMMON NAME: butternut

LEAVES: Alternate. Odd pinnately compound leaf with up to 17 leaflets. Mustache on leaf scar. Very pubescent. Valvate buds.

FRUIT: Oval brown nut shaped somewhat like a football.

BARK: Grey, ridge and furrowed.

OTHER: Pith is a dark brown and chambered. Grows 60' to 80' tall. A member of the Juglandaceae family. Not a common landscape tree.
