SCIENTIFIC NAME: Fraxinus pennsylvanica

COMMON NAME: green ash

LEAVES: Opposite and odd pinnately compound with 7 to 9 leaflets. Axillary bud is on top of the leaf scar and can be seen. Leaf scar is truncated on top. Good yellow fall color.

BARK: Gray and ridge and furrowed.

FRUIT: Single samara up to 3" long with a wing that tapers from a wider tip down to a small seed.

OTHER: Weak limbs and fibrous rooted. Grows 60' to 80' tall. Native to low/moist sites in the eastern United States.

CULTIVARS: Several cultivars have been released such as 'Patmore', 'Marshall's Seedless', 'Newport'. Some cultivars are seedless.
