SCIENTIFIC NAME: Styrax americanus

COMMON NAME: American snowbell, mock orange

FLOWERS: White flowers in April for about 3 weeks. Good fragrance.

LEAVES: Alternate leaves with 2 white axillary buds. Slightly serrated or entire margins and obovate. Up to 3" long.

GROWTH HABIT: Small tree up to 15' tall.

OTHER: Native to low, moist sites. Likes acid soils. Is a good understory tree but will grow in full sun. Has a smooth trunk with grey blotches. Does well in shady, wet areas. A member of the Styracaceae family.
