
SCIENTIFIC NAME: Rhododendron canescens
COMMON NAME: Piedmont azalea, Florida pinxter azalea
FLOWERS: Terminal and trumpet shaped with exerted stamens. Will have pink to pinkish white flowers due to hybridization (pink=more hybridized, white=less hybridized). Flowers from late March to early April before the leaves.
LEAVES: Alternate.
GROWTH HABIT: Grows from 6' to 10' tall and wide.
OTHER: Hardy from zone 6 to 9. The most common native azalea in the trade. Flowers may have some fragrance. Very drought tolerant. Will grow in full sun to part shade.
