
SCIENTIFIC NAME: Prunus X subhirtella `Shidare higan' (Prunus X subhirtella 'Pendula')
COMMON NAME: weeping cherry
FLOWERS: Semi-double or single pink flower in late March.
LEAVES: Alternate and ovate. From 1" to 4" long. Serrated margins.
GROWTH HABIT: Grows 20' to 40' tall and 15' to 30' wide.
OTHER: Is usually grafted at about 6'. Is the shortest lived of the flowering cherries (20 to 25 years old), but people still buy them for their beauty. Can get borers (sap coming out of the trunk) and canker easily.
