
SCIENTIFIC NAME: Prunus persica
COMMON NAME: flowering peach
FLOWERS: Single or double attractive flowers in white, red and pink before the leaves.
LEAVES: Alternate and elliptic to lanceolate in shape with glands at the base. Margins are finely serrated. May be boat shaped. May or may not have stipules. Margin may be red. Up to 4" long with an attenuated tip.
GROWTH HABIT: Grows 15' to 20' tall as a small tree.
OTHER: Hardy form zone 5 to 8. A short lived tree that will have many problems (cankers, borers, and many insects). If used must have a moist, well drained, acid soil and full sun. Try to avoid using in the landscape or will result in many problems for the homeowner. A very high maintenance plant. Is over marketed by the mass media and mail order companies. Native to China.
