SCIENTIFIC NAME: Lagerstroemia fauriei

COMMON NAME: crapemyrtle (crape myrtle, crepe myrtle, crepemyrtle)

FLOWERS: White in June with a lemony fragrance for about 90 days.

LEAVES: Opposite or sub-opposite. Long (to 3") and narrow. Margins are sinuate. Has an attenuated tip.

BARK:

GROWTH HABIT: Grows as a shrub up to 10' tall. Can be limbed up.

OTHER: Hardy from zone 6 to 9. Is native to Japan and was brought to the United States in the 1950's. Is resistant to powdery mildew. Has a good cinnamon colored bark. Is crossed with Lagerstroemia indica as one of the parents for 'Natchez'. Hybrid cultivars make up some of the best crape myrtles available because they can provide disease resistance and long bloom periods. A member of the Lythraceae family.
