SCIENTIFIC NAME: Halesia carolina

COMMON NAME: Carolina silverbell

FLOWERS: White flowers that hang down and look like bells. Bloom is from mid-March to April. Look like dew-drops hanging in the woods. Not an overpowering floral display.

LEAVES: Alternate leaves that are obovate, pointed and slightly serrated. Veins are appresed.

GROWTH HABIT: Small tree that grows 15' to 25' tall.

OTHER: Native understory tree in low, moist sites. The young twigs have bark lines that peel off. Fruit are colored green and in a paddle wheel shape. Will tolerate shade or full sun. A member of the Styracaceae family.
