
SCIENTIFIC NAME: Euonymus alatus
COMMON NAME: winged euonymus, winged spindle tree
FLOWERS: Not important.
LEAVES: Opposite with fine serrations and a short petiole. Excellent red fall color. Up to 2" long.
GROWTH HABIT: Grows 6' to 12' tall with horizontal branching.
OTHER: Hardy from zone 4 to 9. Corky wings on twigs when older. Drought tolerant. Prefers part shade to full sun. Has no common insect or disease problems (no scale or powdery mildew). Best fall color of all deciduous plants we take up. Is good near water, as a foundation plant, or in road medians. 'Compactus' is a dwarf form. A member of the Celastraceae family.
