SCIENTIFIC NAME: Cyrilla racemiflora

COMMON NAME: American cyrilla, leatherleaf, leatherwood, swamp cyrilla, titi

FLOWERS: White raceme at the end of the previous years growth in May or June. Has a slight fragrance.

LEAVES: Alternate with an appressed mid-vein. Can be semi-evergreen. Leaves are at the tips of the branches. Margins are revolute. Up to 2" long.

GROWTH HABIT: Grows 15' to 20' tall as a large shrub or small tree.

OTHER: Hardy from zone 5 to 10. A native, wetland species that prefers full sun to partial shade. Bees love the flowers and is often used to make honey. Is a good plant for wet areas. Has a smooth brown bark and twisted stems that are attractive. A member of the Cyrillaceae family.
