SCIENTIFIC NAME: Asimina parviflora

COMMON NAME: smallflower pawpaw

FLOWERS:Small (1/4" diameter), maroon flowers that hang down in late March to early April.

LEAVES:Alternate, obovate and up to 4" long. Pungant odor when crushed. Has a groove in the petiole. Has reddish pubescence on leaf and petiole.

GROWTH HABIT: Small shrub that grows from 3' to 5' tall.

OTHER: Native to high, dry sites (use as an indicator tree). Small, peanut sized fruit mature in mid to late June and will attract animals. Hardy from zone 5 to 8. In the Annonaceae family.
