COMMON NAME: Japanese cedar

LEAVES: Needles come out all around the twig and the needles point to the tip of the twig.

BARK: Green young twigs. Fibrous brown bark.

OTHER: Evergreen tree. There is a dwarf cultivar. Drought and heat tolerant. Fibrous rooted. Grows 60' to 70' tall in a pyramidal shape. Can limb up. Can be used as a screen or a hedge or a specimen tree. A member of the Taxodiaceae (redwood) family. Some people are now using it to replace Leyland cypress. Branches are whorled.
