SCIENTIFIC NAME: Yucca filamentosa

COMMON NAME: Adams needle yucca, Spanish bayonet

FLOWERS: Tall plume in late summer with white flowers.

GROWTH HABIT: Grows 1' to 2' tall. Spreads by runners.

LEAVES: Has a sword like shape. There are filamentous hairs on the leaves. More flexible than Yucca aloifolia.

OTHER: Used a lot in Spanish architecture, but can be a liability since the leaves can hurt people. Should be used sparingly. Needs full sun and good drainage. Is sensitive to pollution. Native to Alabama. Drought tolerant. A good xeriscape plant.
