LEAVES: Alternate. Scabrous. Leaf galls. Has an inequilateral base (elm family). Up to 3" long.

BARK: Warts on the trunk.

OTHER: Grows only 20' tall. Tolerates high soil pH. Not in the trade, but leave it on a site if found. See a fair number of this species on lots up at Lake Martin in Tallapoosa County, AL.
