
SCIENTIFIC NAME: Osmanthus fragrans
COMMON NAME: sweet osmanthus, tea olive
FLOWERS: Fragrant, white flowers in the winter when it is warm and spring.
GROWTH HABIT: Grows from 6' to 12' tall. Can be kept around 6' tall if pruned.
LEAVES: Opposite with some serrations or none. 3" to 4" long. Has a thinner leaf than other Osmanthus spp.
OTHER: Hardy to zone 7b. Used a lot under the windows of old homes. Will grow in full sun to part shade. This is the old fashioned tea olive. Variety aurantiacus has orange flowers and is an attractive plant.
