
SCIENTIFIC NAME: Ophiopogon japonicus
COMMON NAME: mondo grass or monkey grass
FLOWERS: Has a lavender flower on a short stalk (not held above the foliage) in early summer.
FRUIT: Black fruit in fall.
GROWTH HABIT: Grows up to 6" or so and is spreading.
LEAVES: Has a thin leaf.
OTHER: Good for shade areas (will bleach out in full sun) and tolerates heavy clay and compacted soils. A grass substitute in areas of dense shade. Will not tolerate foot traffic. A member of the Liliaceae family.
