SCIENTIFIC NAME: Cedrus deodara

COMMON NAME: deodar cedar

LEAVES: 1" to 2" needles that have a bluish/grey tint. In clusters.

FRUIT: Cone is 3" long.

BARK: Smooth.

OTHER: Grows 60' to 80' tall and has a pyramidal shape. The new growth is slightly weeping with a distinct bluish tint to it. Temperatures must stay above zero (F) to avoid cold damage. Grows from Tennessee south. Can be a living Christmas tree. Can get deodar weevil (bore into the trunk) but is rare. If tree is dying, first thing to look for is the deodar weevil. Can be used as a specimen tree. Does not need much pruning. A member of the Pinaceae family.
