SCIENTIFIC NAME: Illicium anisatum

COMMON NAME: Japanese anise tree

FLOWERS: Small, white flowers in the spring.

GROWTH HABIT: Grows 4' to 8' tall. Can be controlled at about 6'.

LEAVES: Alternate. Waxy, smaller (3" long) and not held up like Illicium parviflorum. Indistinct venation under leaf. Revolute margins and light green foliage. Has distinct odor when crushed.

OTHER: Hardy from zone 7 to 9. Does best in a moist, well drained, acid soil in part shade. A member of the Illiciaceae family.
